Roanoke College appoints new executive director for administration

Roanoke College has appointed Ennis McCrery as executive director for administration in the President’s Office. She begins on October 17.
McCrery comes to Roanoke from Virginia Tech, where she now serves as special assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs. She has been an administrator at Virginia Tech for 20 years, serving in multiple roles including director for student conduct, senior Title IX investigator and gender-based violence prevention specialist, graduate student ombudsperson, instructor in the Department of English, and technical editor for the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
At Roanoke College, McCrery will be responsible for the administration, activities, communications and initiatives of the President’s Office and assist in the development and implementation of projects that advance the overall welfare of the College.
“I had the privilege of working with Ennis for 13 years at Virginia Tech. She is collaborative, team-oriented, a terrific administrator, gifted editor and poet, and an even better human being,” said Roanoke College President Frank Shushok Jr.
McCrery has visited Roanoke College several times and is committed to serving in higher ed in order to better the lives of young people.
“I’ve learned that Roanoke College is beautiful inside and out: from its tree-filled lawns; to the student-centered faculty, staff and programs; to the remarkable students themselves,” said McCrery. “I am inspired by its call for purpose and meaning and am grateful for the opportunity to join a committed community of educators to support such a vital mission.”
McCrery has a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and a Bachelor of Arts in English, both from Virginia Tech. She served on the editorial team of the national magazine About Campus from 2013-2018.
McCrery and her husband, Ken McCrery, live in Blacksburg. They have two grown children.
