While Dining With Us
The community nature of a college dining hall is unique. We want you to feel like you are at home. However, there is still a restaurant atmosphere present. Guests who are dining with us must cooperate with others in maintaining a clean and pleasant environment. We ask for your help in keeping our Commons a great place to eat and just hang out.
Meal plan participants are required to present a valid RC ID, Mobile Credential, or department card upon entry to the Commons or use in all dining locations, as the ID carries your meal plan information. You will be denied entry if you do not have your ID with you. Students who allow others to use their RC ID will have their card confiscated and be subject to college disciplinary measures.
Removal of Food or Property from Sutton Commons
No food may be taken out of the dining hall except for items presented in disposable or to-go containers at specialty stations. See below for to-go policy. Guests may take one item that is an approved "snack" item. Snack items include whole pieces of fruit, ice cream novelties, cookies, or cookie bars.
Plates, glasses, silverware, trays, decorations or other Dining Service's property may not be removed from the dining hall. Anyone violating this policy will be subject to discipline by the Office of the Dean of Students.
To-Go Options
Guests dining at Sutton Commons have the option to get their food to-go. Guests who choose to get their food to-go may not dine in Sutton Commons. The intent is to provide a convenient option for students and guests to have an option to get food to accommodate their busy schedule, to participate in meetings or team practices/events or to simply have a meal for later consumption. One to-go container is provided per swipe.
We offer a reusable to-go option (green OZZI containers) in Sutton Commons. Exchange your OZZI coin at the checker's station for a clean, reusable container and compostable beverage cup. One OZZI container may be used per swipe or purchased admission. Student dining plan holders may pick up their first OZZI coin from the checker's station at no charge. Campus community members who currently have an OZZI coin may still use them. Those without an OZZI coin may purchase replacement coins at the Sutton Commons' checker's station for $6.00, plus tax.
Guests who choose to get their food to-go may not dine in Sutton Commons.
"Through the Line"
Often, campus partners and visitors may desire to pay for groups to get meals in the Sutton Commons. Please coordinate these requests with Roanoke College Catering Services and provide at least 72 hours advance notice.
While we aren’t able to manage the number of guests who dine with us, we can confidently advise that the busiest weekday times are often 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Often, a queue is formed for guests waiting to enter. In order to best serve all of our guests, we may restrict "through the line" requests during peak service times. We ask that you please be mindful and hold your place in line for entry.
Outside Food
Dining Services is proud of the products and services, and we offer a wide selection of options to satisfy most diners' needs. However, if visitor or guest is joining our students in one of our retail dining locations, they may bring food from other providers. Outside food is not permitted in Sutton Commons. Guests entering the the Commons are required to enter through the front doors and use their meal plan or other payment method.
Sick Meals
Sick meal passes are available through Health Services. If you need to pick up a sick tray for someone, please bring their ID along with their sick meal pass in order to obtain their meal.
