Lewis Receives Gilman award to study in Paris
December 12, 2017
Arianna Lewis '19 has been selected as a Gilman Scholar. She will use the award for her semester abroad (Spring 2018) in Paris, France. She plans to take classes on art history of the 20th century, French culture and society, contemporary France and an accelerated intermediate French class.
Lewis is a double major in history and international relations with minors in art history and French. Beyond the classroom Lewis is the vice president of the Hillel organization, a student assistant in Roanoke's admissions office, a peer mentor and a member of the Chi Omega fraternity. She is from Coral Springs, Florida.
Lewis is the ninth Roanoke student to receive this award offered by the IIE, (the Institute of International Education) and the US Department of State and only the second to receive a Gilman for study in Europe.
Gilman Scholars receive support for their study abroad or internship program costs. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages, and economies -- making them better prepared to assume leadership roles within government and the private sector.
