Burch landed his seventh world record for achieving the most first ascents in the history of the unclimbed Mongolian mountains. He also named one of the peaks in honor of his alma mater. 

The awards, co-sponsored by Roanoke College and Hollins University, recognize distinction in arts and culture in the Roanoke Valley. 

For the fourth time in recent years, Roanoke College is ranked among the nation's top Up and Coming National Liberal Arts Colleges. 

Jessica Compton, a Literary Studies major, plans to earn her master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Isabel Castillo of Harrisonburg has gone to great lengths to advocate for opportunities for undocumented  young adults to earn an education and make a living in the United States. 

Warner Dalhouse '56 of Roanoke. and Dr. Marvin M. Phaup '62 of Washington, D.C., received honorary degrees during Roanoke's Commencement on May 3.
