Goal 3: Promote Administrative, Financial and Operational Excellence

We began work on Roanoke’s new strategic plan in October 2023 with a Community Day that brought together faculty, staff and students to contribute more than 1,300 comments, ideas and suggestions for the future of Roanoke College.

In January 2024, President Shushok appointed a Strategic Planning Team made up of 22 faculty, staff, students and trustees to develop a ranked list of strategic initiatives, and during spring semester 2024, the team refined and prioritized the ideas. In April 2024, the planning team presented 18 strategic initiatives to the College’s senior leadership team and the board of trustees for feedback and prioritization.

This 2023-24 work teed up the six imperatives of our strategic plan, and that plan, “Imagine Roanoke,” was approved by the board of trustees in August 2024. 

Also in October 2023, the college created a Shared Governance Task Force charged with studying, designing and recommending a new structure for shared governance at Roanoke College. The task force carried out its work concurrent with creation of the strategic plan, recognizing that shared governance is a crucial ingredient in effecting institutional change.

Also in the 2023-2024 year, the college launched an upgraded website with enhanced features built with ease of user experience as a top priority, as well as a redesigned Roanoke College magazine geared toward greater alumni engagement.
