What is Maroon Passport?
Roanoke College’s travel program furthers our mission of helping learners explore the world and grow as engaged citizens — all while enjoying the benefits of small group, expertly guided travel alongside the wider Maroon community.
Do I have to be an alum?
No, we welcome all travelers who are eager to explore, learn and connect with other adventurers. Our trips are a wonderful way for alumni, parents, friends, family and more to experience new cultures, build friendships and strengthen their ties to a vibrant community of Maroons.
Can I bring children?
Trips are only available for adults aged 18 and over.
What are the physical requirements?
Generally, travelers should be in good health and feel comfortable keeping pace with a group while visiting sights, walking to destinations or navigating buses, planes, ferries and other vehicles. Activity levels vary by trip. For information about a specific trip, please review its itinerary on our website and contact travel@roanoke.edu with any questions.
Who organizes each trip?
Expert faculty members with experience in the destination country organize and lead each trip, ensuring travelers enjoy an authentic, insightful journey into new parts of the world.
How are flight arrangements handled?
Travelers book their own flights to and from a destination country. That ensures all parties the flexibility to pick their preferred airline, departure city and even travel dates for those interested in extending a trip beyond the Maroon Passport experience.
Airfare isn’t included in trip prices. For a full list of inclusions and exclusions for each trip, please review the pricing information in the trip details on our website.
IMPORTANT:
We don’t recommend purchasing nonrefundable airfare. Refundable tickets or trip protection insurance offer you a safety net in the event that travel plans change. Be sure to familiarize yourself with a policy before buying it. Not all offers include “cancel for any reason” trip protection. (See more information under: Should I purchase travel insurance?)
What is the cancellation policy for Maroon Passport?
Cancellation options vary by trip. For information about specific trips, please contact travel@roanoke.edu.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect yourself in the event you need to cancel a trip, lose luggage, fall ill or face other unexpected circumstances.
