Janiah Tillery ‘21 received a Fulbright ETA award for Taiwan for 2021-22. Previously, she was the 13th Maroon to earn a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship, to study Mandarin at Providence University in Taichung City, Taiwan.

Gracie Goodpasture ‘23 was accepted into the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes program to take part in the Fulbright Aberystwyth University Summer Institute to study sustainable agriculture in Wales.

Serayna Green ‘22 earned a Freeman-Asia Scholarship to study at Kansai Gaidai University between Osaka and Kyoto, Japan.

Michelle De La Cruz was the 12th Maroon to be named a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar. She studied criminal law, advanced French, and law and technology at Vesalius College in Brussels, Belgium. She graduated from Roanoke in 2020 with a major in criminal justice and a concentration in legal studies.

Vanessa Pearson is the 11th Roanoke College student selected as a Gilman Scholar. Pearson will spend the Spring 2019 semester in Australia at James Cook University taking psychology, education and Australian history classes.

Gabe Umland was selected for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) in Indonesia.

Linnea Stewart was awarded a Fulbright to India to study and conduct research on bird populations on organic and non-organic farms.

Destinee Harper is the 8th Roanoke College student appointed to the US-UK Fulbright Summer Institute. Harper will spend four weeks in June and July at the University of Sussex where she will study “Britishness and British culture.”

Olivia Streett is the 10th Roanoke College student to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. This fall, Streett will study in Leipzig, Germany.

Maggie Fitzgerald received a Fulbright to teach English in Oviedo, a city in northern Spain. Fitzgerald graduated in 2018 as a history major with a minor in secondary education and a concentration in African and African Diaspora.

Kaitlin Busse received a Fulbright award to conduct research and study in Denmark at the Copenhagen Business School. Kaitlin graduated in 2018 with a psychology major, a sociology minor and a concentration in human resource management.

Samuel McKnight was awarded a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Russian language summer of 2018 in Vladimir, Russia. He is the first Roanoke College student to receive this competitive award.

Matthew L. Roberts became a Finalist in the Truman competition (one of 5 from Virginia and 230 nationwide). He graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Computer Science.
Adiyah A. Ali received a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship for Minority Students for this past academic year. She graduated with a B.A. in International Relations.

Tania L. Connor made the Third Team and in 1995 Lora Schwehr received an honorable mention of the All-USA Academic Team; both were recognized in the USA Today newspaper. Tania graduated with a B.S. in Biology; Lora graduated with majors in both Mathematics and Physics.
