Academic Requirements & Resources
Academic Life
Summer Session students are subject to the same academic and conduct regulations that apply to students enrolled during the regular term. Regular class attendance is expected in all courses. Instructors having specific attendance requirements will state these on the syllabus (class policy statement) provided at the beginning of each course. Students are accountable for any work missed because of class absence. Instructors are not obligated to make special arrangements.
Degree candidates may be subject to academic warning or suspension as a result of Summer Session grades. Alternatively, students may improve their academic standing as a result of grades earned during the Summer Session. Information on academic warning and suspension policies are available in the Registrar's Office and on our webpage.
Students completing all degree requirements for graduation during the Summer Session receive their diplomas by mail.
Library Services & Resources Supporting the Summer Online Classes
Fintel Library has adequate resources to support summer online courses. Online library collections including journals, monographs, and media are numerous with availability to the end user 24x7 via the internet. Interlibrary loan will be used to deliver journal articles and book chapters not held within Fintel's collections. If necessary, delivery of physical items from Fintel's collections to the student will be possible. Librarians will work with faculty teaching online courses to identify appropriate electronic resources to mitigate the possibility of students needing physical resources.
Personalized reference assistance and appointment-based research services will be offered using a variety of tools to facilitate the "in-person" experience (e.g. interactive chat, SKYPE, and free screen sharing tools). Research appointments will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for both the student and the librarian. Drop-in reference assistance will be managed through chat with attention given to the need to adjust based upon time zones served in the online environment.
Specific services and resources supporting online courses include:
a. Remote access to electronic library resources
b. Online reference services including interactive chat, research appointments (conducted face-to-face via SKPYE), email reference, LibAndsers (an online FAQ tool), and subject guides.
