Byford H. Denman was born in Lufkin Texas and went to Roanoke College in 1916, in the footsteps of his father who attended Roanoke in 1877. Upon completion of his pre-medical training, he enrolled at the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his M.D. degree in 1927.
Dr. Denman served his internship in Guthrie Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia, and pursued graduate study at New York's Polytechnic Clinic. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the post medical assemblies of New Orleans and Houston. He was also a member of the Southern Medical Association. He was very active in civic affairs in his home tow. He was on the staffs of Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. He held offices in the county medical society and was a member of the Phi Chi Medical Society. He was also a member of the Warwick International and Doctors Clubs, both located in Houston.
Dr. Denman maintained long and loyal interest in Roanoke College. He provided leadership in Roanoke alumni activities in Texas, and was a charter member of the new Roanoke College Associates. He was awarded the Roanoke College Medal on May 9, 1970 for leading a productive life full of significance, as well as his distinctive service and professional achievements.
