Edward P. "Ned" Gough graduated from Roanoke College in 1937 with a BS. He was a member of the Varsity football team for two years before an injury ended his on field participation. Gough was in the Navy, and held the position as commissioned officer during World War II.
Gough served as class agent for the Annual Fund in 1957, and became the National Fund Chairman in 1972, a position he held for three years. He also served as a worker in the capital funds campaign, which provided a library, science center, and chapel for the College. His leadership abilities and his lively interest in Roanoke College paid off when he was awarded a place in the Roanoke College Athletic Hall of Fame in May on 1967.
Gough was vice president of Roanoke's Alumni Association and was preside of Roanoke Frosted Foods, Incorporated. In 1971 he headed Roanoke College's Annual Giving Fund, which solicited funds for scholarship aid, faculty salaries, and equipment for the liberal arts college.
Edward P. Gough received the Roanoke College Medal in 1977.
