Mr. Roger W. Sandt '64

Roger William Sandt was born in Englewood, New Jersey, and attended high school in Tenafly, New   Jersey, before coming to Roanoke College. At Roanoke, Sandt served as a member of the Freshman Advisory Council and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, the Roanoke College choir, and the cross country track team.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration from Roanoke in 1964.

After graduation, Sandt was employed by Bishop Paper Company in New York, Dow Jones & Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Maxwell Paper Products in Hopewell, NJ.  In 1982, he formed his own company, Sandt Products Incorporated, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which manufactures paper roll and folded specialty products for use on business machines.

An active member of his community, Sandt has served on many boards such as the Lancaster Family YMCA, the Demuth Foundation (Art Museum), and the North Museum of Natural History & Science.  He is active with the Lancaster Symphony where there is a Roger W. & Judith Sandt chair.  Sandt has served on the Pennsylvania Dutch Council of the Boy Scouts of America and with the Junior Achievement of Lancaster/Lebanon.

Members of historic Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Sandt and his wife, Judith, donated "Christ and the Children", the first stained-glass window to be installed in Trinity in 61 years.  Sandt also serves as Secretary of the Sarah Ann Stauffer & Charles F. & Dorothy D. Stauffer Charitable Trust.

A devoted Roanoke College alumnus, Sandt is a Lifetime Distinguished Associate. The C. Homer Bast Track, named in honor of Sandt's former track coach, was dedicated in October 2006 and was made possible through a donation by Sandt.  At the dedication, Sandt stated that Homer Bast helped students set high standards and that he gave a blueprint to be followed for life in which there was no room for mediocrity.

Roger and his wife, Judith, live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Sarasota, Florida.  He has three children: Severn, Evan Andrew, and Claire.

Roger W. Sandt 2received the Roanoke College Medal in 2012.
