Join Roanoke College as we honor the lives and legacies of enslaved individuals connected to our history with the dedication of a new memorial by Richmond-based artist Sandy Williams IV.

The bronze memorial sculpture, Authors & Architects, features record books engraved with the names of formerly enslaved individuals. The books were cast from 3D scans of original records found in the college library and local court archives.

The project, shaped by a community survey, student collaboration and the Center for Studying Structures of Race (CSSR), reflects on memory, monuments and history.
