Colket Center Building Policies
Academic Classes |
Academic classes may not be conducted in the Colket Center. Course related activities and events are welcome as space permits. The Director of the Colket Center or his/her designee can only make exceptions to this policy. |
Animals |
No animals are permitted in the building with the exception of guide and service animals. |
Authorized Use and Access |
Only authorized personnel shall operate the sound systems in the building. Only authorized personnel shall operate the lighting controls in the common areas of the building. Only authorized personnel are permitted behind the information desk, in storage areas of the building, and in the service elevator. |
Behavior |
Persons or groups should refrain from actions disrupting Colket Center's desired atmosphere, programs, activities, and events. Distasteful or objectionable behavior is discouraged. |
Bicycles |
Bicycles are not permitted in the building. There is a bike rack located outside at the East end of the Colket Center. |
Bulletin Boards |
Colket Center bulletin boards are available for notices and advertisements from all groups on or off-campus. Posters, flyers, and advertisements must be in good taste and consistent with the mission of the college. It is requested that common courtesy be used when posting items on bulletin board and not cover other current notices. |
Candles |
All candles must be set inside a glass votive or container. No open fires are allowed. |
Decorating |
All decorations must be approved in advance as some live greenery can not be used within the building. Tacks and tape may not be used on any walls, including in meeting rooms and the Wortmann Ballroom. |
Dress |
Shirts and shoes are required in all food service areas of the Colket Center and Sutton Commons. |
Elevators |
A passenger elevator is available for all guests in the building. The service elevator is for official use only and is not for passenger use. |
Equipment and Furnishings |
Equipment and furnishings are not to be removed from the building without the permission of the Director of the Colket Center or his/her designee. |
Mailbox Stuffers |
For the purposes of the policy regarding the placement of stuffers in student, faculty or staff mailboxes in Colket Center, a stuffer is defined as unaddressed (no name & box number) campus mail that is designated to be placed in all mailboxes or large groups of mailboxes. Only stuffers or surveys from recognized Roanoke College student organizations, academic departments or administrative offices may be placed in mailboxes through the campus mail system. Surveys will only be distributed if they are part of a Roanoke College academic course assignment or approved by the administration. The Director of Colket Center or his/her designee must approve all stuffers. Individual area businesses will not be allowed to have stuffers placed in mailboxes. They may request to have materials placed in a common area for distribution to the campus community. |
Parking |
Visitor parking is located in the Olin Hall, Bast Center, or Market Street parking lots. |
Publicity Policies |
All organizational publicity to be displayed in Colket Center should be in good taste and consistent with the standards and mission of the college. Publicity may only be posted on designated bulletin boards or above the conveyor belt in the Commons. Publicity may NOT be posted on glass or doors except the Sutton Commons Atrium windows. Tacks and tape may not be used on any walls, including in meeting rooms and the Wortmann Ballroom. Publicity found in undesignated areas will be removed. |
Recreation Equipment Reservations |
Students, faculty & staff may check out recreational equipment from Campus Recreation located in Bast 220. |
Room Usage |
Rooms and space are reserved on a first come first serve basis. The management of the Colket Center reserves the right to reassign space if necessary. Facilities that are reserved, but not used after 30 minutes, will be considered cancelled. Facilities that are unoccupied and unreserved may be used by Roanoke College students, faculty, or staff for study, meetings, or lounging. |
Skates |
Skateboards, inline skates, roller skates, and similar items are not permitted in the building. |
Smoking |
Smoking is not permitted in the Colket Center. Smoking is permitted at designated locations outside the building. |
Table Tent Reservations |
Table tents may be reserved at the Colket information desk. These table tents are plastic sign holders that may be placed on tables in the Sutton Commons, The Cavern, and the atriums. They may be used to publicize campus events or other information to the campus community. Any recognized college organization, office, or department may reserve the table tents. Table tents may only be used to publicize a student organization event, activity, or college related information. Table tents may be reserved for a maximum of seven days. |
Vendor/Solicitation Information |
Groups or individuals that wish to distribute or sell literature or merchandise, or who wish to recruit students or seek membership or support for organizations, shall be subject to the following regulations: Sales of merchandise and services on campus to individuals (students, faculty and staff) by for-profit individuals, for-profit organizations or not-for-profit organizations or individuals representing not-for-profit organizations are prohibited except under the following conditions: |

Visitors |
The Colket Center welcomes visitors and guests. We ask visitors and guests to comply with all college and building policies. Policies may be obtained from the Colket Center Information Desk. |
