Roanoke’s Historical Society
Roanoke's Historical Society is open to all interested students. This organization plans outings to historical sites, hosts films and speakers and sponsors socials two or three times a year.
Phi Alpha Theta
Phi Alpha Theta is to encourage and recognize excellence in the study of history. Roanoke's chapter, Upsilon Omega, was chartered in 1974. To be eligible for membership, you must have at least junior standing, rank in the upper 35% of your class, have at least four full units of history, have an average of better than B in all history courses, and have an average of B or better in two-thirds of the remainder of all academic work.
Pi Gamma Mu
The purpose of the society is to recognize outstanding scholarship in the social sciences. The Virginia Iota Chapter serves as an interdisciplinary honor society for students in economics, history, political science, psychology, sociology, international relations, and geography. To be eligible for membership, you must have junior or senior standing, seven social science courses (with no grade lower than B) in at least five of the course areas listed above, and rank in the top 35% of the class.
