Dr. Angela Allen, Lecturer in Psychology Dr. Allen began teaching at Roanoke College 1997. She received a B.A. ('86) from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Ph.D. ('92) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her interests are in psychopharmacology and abnormal psychology. |

Dr. Wen Bu, Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Bu joined the department in 2023. She received a B.S. in Chemistry and Political Science from Furman University (2005), a J.D. from Harvard Law School (2008), a Post-Bacc in Psychology at Columbia University (2013), and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Minnesota (2021). Her research interests include social identity and identity threat/safety; stereotypes, prejudice, and intergroup relations; political psychology; and psychology and law. |

Dr. Christopher Buchholz, Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Buchholz joined the department in 2004. He received a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech ('93), a M.A. from Appalachian State University ('98), and a Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University ('02). His research interests include Prejudice & Discrimination, Consciousness & the Self, Evolutionary Psychology, and Moral Decision Making. |

Dr. Travis Carter, Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Carter joined the department in 2017. He received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology from Cornell University. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. His research interests reside in the realms of judgment and decision-making, social cognition, and consumer behavior. |

Dr. Anthony Cate, Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Cate joined the department in 2020. He received a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University, a Ph.D. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University. His research interest is to investigate the cognitive and systems-‐level neural processes of visual object and scene perception in order to explain aspects of complex cognitive skills, especially memory and reasoning. |

Dr. Danielle Findley-Van Nostrand, Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Findley-Van Nostrand joined the department in 2017. She received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of South Florida. Her research centers on social status and belonging and affiliated aspects of social behaviors, motivation, and the self. |

Dr. Michael M. Love, Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Love joined the department in 2023 and is a licensed Clinical Psychologist. He received a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (2002), a M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Radford University (2011), and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Radford University (2015). His research interests include adjustment to college among first-generation students, prescription opioid addiction in rural communities, competencies in psychotherapy with LGBTQ+ clients, and the therapeutic uses of tabletop role-playing games. |

Dr. Lauren Kennedy-Metz, Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Kennedy-Metz joined the department in 2022. She received a B.S. in Psychology from Roanoke College ('14) and a Ph.D. in Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health from Virginia Tech ('18). Her research interests include characterizing psychophysiological indicators of stress and developing biofeedback-based approaches to stress management interventions. |

Dr. David Nichols, Professor of Psychology, Chair Dr. Nichols joined the department in 2009. Previously Dr. Nichols completed a post-doctoral position at the Vision Research Centre at York University in Toronto. Dr. Nichols completed a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Nichol's teaching and research interests are in Sensation and Perception and Cognitive Neuroscience among other areas. |
