Roanoke College is designated as a “2024-2025 Military Friendly® School”
GI Bill® Benefits & Yellow Ribbon Program
Roanoke College is approved to offer GI Bill® educational benefits by the Virginia State Approving Agency. In addition to the Post 9-11 and other GI Bill® benefits, Roanoke College is a participating school in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
The Virginia State Approving Agency (SAA) is the approving authority of education and training programs for Virginia. Their office investigates complaints of GI Bill® beneficiaries. If the situation cannot be resolved within the College, the beneficiary should contact the Virginia State Approving Agency via email at saa@dvs.virginia.gov.
Post 9-11 GI Bill® and Other Veteran Benefit Programs
Many veterans qualify for more than one benefit program. Click here for information on current veteran benefit programs.
To start your benefits process, proceed to the GI Bill® website and follow the Step-By-Step Instructions. Once you submit your information and are deemed qualified, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility. With your certificate, we can verify your enrollment for classes and forward it to the Department of Veterans' Affairs for approval and payment of benefits.

Yellow Ribbon Program
Qualify to attend Roanoke College tuition-free!
In partnership with the Federal Government through the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, Roanoke College is proud to be a participating school in the Department of Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program.
Through this alliance, the VA will match the contributions made by schools to pay for the education of eligible veterans and their qualifying dependents. The combination of Roanoke College's grant funding and those paid by the VA under the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act will cover the full cost of tuition and fees for qualified, degree-seeking veterans. There is also an allowance for books and supplies.
Roanoke College does not currently have a cap on the number of participants who can qualify for the program.
Students must be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® at 100% to be considered. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please visit the VA's Yellow Ribbon Program webpage.
Roanoke College Contacts for Veterans' Benefits
At Roanoke, responsibilities related to the awarding of veterans' educational benefits are maintained by three offices: Financial Aid, Business and Registrar. The Financial Aid Office and the Business Office address the awarding of financial aid and the billing aspects related to the educational benefits. The Registrar's Office submits enrollment information to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs shortly before the beginning of each term. Once processed, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs issues the payments/reimbursements/allowances applicable to the benefit.
