Health and Human Performance Associate Professor Liz Ackley has been tapped for fellowship status within the American College of Sports Medicine.

Fellowship is considered one of the most prestigious credentials within ACSM. The organization represents more than 50,000 members across 70 sports medicine fields. The group works to help people worldwide live healthier, longer lives.
Ackley, who is Roanoke College’s Brian H. Thornhill Associate Professor in Health and Human Performance, is an exercise physiologist by training. She has a research focus in the interaction between hypokinetic diseases and environmental access to resources supporting healthy living.
She founded Roanoke College’s Center for Community Health Innovation and, in 2011, developed the Roanoke Valley Community Healthy Living Index to gather data that helps local governments, nonprofits and private sector leaders better understand health trends in Roanoke City’s diverse neighborhoods.
In 2022, she was honored with an Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
