Nancy Agee speaks on servant leadership

Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity and the Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurial Innovation sponsored a visit by Nancy Agee on Oct. 22. Agee is president and CEO of Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit integrated health care system headquartered in Roanoke, serving southwest Virginia. 

Agee spoke to a large group about a particular style of leadership – servant leadership. The audience gave her a standing ovation after her discussion on ethics in professional lives. She also addressed her role as a female CEO.

“Pi Lambda Phi seeks to bring important members of our community to speak at our annual speaker series,” Dillon Kopec ’20, president of the Lambda Kappa chapter of Pi Lambda Phi, said.

“We are looking for those who have proved to exceed in displaying leadership, honorable character, and ethical behavior both in their personal lives, and careers,” Kopec said. “Ms. Agee provided a unique perspective on leadership, as she is one of the few female CEO's and presidents in the United States. She has proved to be an instrumental member of the Roanoke community, and we were honored to have the opportunity to meet her. This will be a memorable moment for all of our Brothers’ lives, and the takeaway's from this event will be qualities we can apply to our lives.”

Also at the event, two scholarships were awarded by Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity for students who show great leadership skills, commitment to their communities, and proved to be dedicated scholars while in high school. The scholarships were presented to Gracie Goodpasture ’23, from Ashland, and Amber Vaughn ’22, from Pittsboro, NC.
