Dr. Mary Camac goes over the Edge!
June 16, 2015
"The hardest part was climbing over the railing and stepping down onto the ledge," Dr. Mary Camac said. "I didn't look down."
Dr. Mary Camac went over the edge of the Patrick Henry building in downtown Roanoke to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Roanoke Valley. Wearing a Spiderman shirt, it took her about four minutes to descend 11 stories (132 feet.) She's on the right in the video.
"It's really safe; we wore harnesses and used ropes that could hold 7,000 lbs," Camac said. "There was an emergency stop on the device we used to release the rope in case we got going too fast. The hardest part was climbing over the railing and stepping down onto the ledge. I didn't look down. I studied the brick very, very closely, and I went down pretty fast in order to get it done. Afterward is when the shaking began!
Fundraising for Big Brothers Big Sisters is still going on if you want to support this worthy cause. Unlike Camac, you don't have to go over the edge down 11 stories. Just click this link.
