Roanoke celebrates Founder's Day 2016
November 15, 2016
The students of the Historical Society, established in 1875 by Roanke College founder Dr. David Bittle himself, celebrated the college's founding and our first President's birthday.
On Wednesday, November 16, students and faculty from the History department dressed in costumes from various eras in the history of Roanoke College.
Founder's Day events began with a bonfire on the Back Quad at 7 p.m. and carriage rides for the kids, young and old. At 7:30 p.m., the group formed a parade to march through Salem with a police escort, to East Hill Cemetery where the Historical Society laid a wreath to honor our founders and offered a few remarks.
Afterwards, events moved to the Logan Gallery on the first floor of the Bank Building for "Bittle Birthday Bash" featuring karaoke, snacks and music.
