Holidays in Salem
December 02, 2016
Roanoke College students from several organizations participated in the 60th Annual Salem Christmas Parade on December 2. Roanoke's float was designed to celebrate the College's 175th anniversary Maroon Momentum, coming up in 2017. History students dressed in period garb. They were joined by the RC Spirit Team, Looking for an Echo, and members of the Campus Activities Board.
Roanoke College dining staff took part in a holiday competition -- the Salem Gingerbread Festival. The festival was hosted by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce. Roanoke College took the win for Best Business Entry with a sweet creation built by Lavelle Glenn and Rebecca Mastin of the dining services bake shop team. Participants of the festival voted for their favorite house. The sugary replica of the Roanoke College Administration building was then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Proceeds from the Gingerbread Festival support the Chamber Foundation Scholarship program, benefitting area high school students. Congratulations RC dining staff!
