Jimmy Buriak '12, a sport management graduate, who is a naval helicopter aircrewman 2nd class, recently saved someone from drowning on a beach in Guam. The incident was covered by the Pacific News Center. Way to go!
The Roanoke College chapter of ToyLikeMe, a volunteer group comprised of students, faculty and staff who modify toys to reflect the different abilities of the child recipient, received attention from Macaroni Kid. A special mention was given to the creator of the College’s initiative, Dr. Frances Bosch.
The College’s Wheelchair Basketball tournament fundraiser on behalf of the Roanoke Stars, a wheelchair basketball team, took place on February 15th – an effort spearheaded by Coach Mary Schwartz. The event was covered by WFIR.
Roanoke College alumnus and lacrosse-star-turned entrepreneurial restaurant owner Bob Rotanz of Salem’s Mac and Bob’s is the subject of The National’s article concerning the lawsuits he faced and the ability of the Salem community to rally around the business and help keep it afloat. A producer from the Today Show read the article and they came to Salem to interview several people at Mac and Bob’s and their story is expected to air on Sunday, Feb. 23 near the end of the show.
