Political Science and Spanish major Adam Johnston '18 is the third student to be awarded a Fulbright this year. The Fulbright program has offered him an English Teaching Assistantship in Brazil after additional funding was allocated to the country's program.
The Radford native served as a Maroon Ambassador and resident advisor. He was on the board for the Student Government Association, and was an active member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and in the all-male a cappella group Looking for an Echo.
"Take every opportunity you can possibly get your hands on, whether it's listening to a teach-in by a professor or trying out for a capella. Don't let anything pass you by," recommends Johnston.
Johnston discovered the Fulbright program when it was discussed in an on-campus event. "The program incorporates my interests of teaching, public service and Spanish," said Johnston. "I was fortunate enough to spend the Spring semester of my junior year in Spain, so I was eager to get back to the country."
Johnston is currently a seventh grade science teacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma for Teach for America.
