Kassens Appointed to Economic Advisory Board

Dr. Alice Kassens, the John S. Shannon Professor of Economics, has been appointed by Governor Ralph Northam to the Joint Advisory Board of Economists (JABE) for the second consecutive term. She was previously one of twelve appointed by former Governor Terry McAuliffe. The function of JABE is to advise the governor and the Department of Taxation on the state of the Commonwealth's economy and the nation as a whole. This information is used to project tax revenues before setting the state budget.
Kassens earned a B.A. in economics and history from the College of William and Mary and a Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University.
Kassens is a senior analyst with Roanoke College's Institute for Policy and Opinion Research (IPOR). She oversees IPOR's consumer sentiment and real estate polls. She was awarded a Franklin Grant in 2012 from the American Philosophical Society for research on clinical depression and the "Best in Class" teaching award of 2013 from Cengage Learning.
