Men's volleyball becomes newest NCAA sport for Roanoke Athletics
July 19, 2021
On Monday, Director of Athletics Scott Allison announced that men’s volleyball will be added to the NCAA sports at Roanoke College. Men’s volleyball will bring Roanoke’s overall number of NCAA sponsored sports to 23 and is scheduled to begin play in the fall of 2022.
After a nationwide coaching search, Matt Reinsel has been tabbed as the team’s head coach.
“I look forward to contributing to the culture of student athletes who are dedicated to their degrees and competition,” Reinsel said.
Men’s volleyball is not yet sponsored by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, although the number of ODAC schools sponsoring the sport will be at three with Roanoke joining Eastern Mennonite and Randolph-Macon in sponsoring men’s volleyball at the NCAA level. Allison will be exploring options to find a conference for the team to compete.
The addition comes on the heels of wrestling, slated to begin competition this fall, being added to the College’s roster of athletic offerings.
