President Maxey's Weekly Update — Nov. 20
November 20, 2020
Dear Maroons,
We did it! I am filled with thanks as we come to the last full week of the fall semester. I am so delighted, and yes relieved, that those who chose to be with us on campus this fall were able to stay here through the entire semester. Our success owes everything to you and I appreciate the perseverance, flexibility and resiliency you all have shown. Thank you also for the commitment you have made to your studies, your professors and your peers this fall. Please stay safe, good luck with exams and enjoy the upcoming break!
On campus, our COVID-19 cases remain low with one active student case. Thank you for your hard work that has allowed me to report low cases consistently throughout this semester.
As you prepare for your travel home please be aware that many states including Virginia have tightened up restrictions as COVID-19 cases are increasing around the nation. You should be aware of the restrictions for the state you are traveling to; you will find that information on your state’s Department of Health website.
Here are a few reminders as you finish up your exams and turn your minds
toward winter break:
- The last day of COVID-19 testing through the Student Health Center is today, Friday, Nov. 20. Remember there is a new telehealth option, MaroonCare, that you can access throughout your winter break. Thank you to everyone in Student Health Services who made that possible.
- Students who are currently living on campus can leave their belongings in their room. All we ask is that you take any items you might need just in case we need to start the spring semester online only. We don’t foresee that happening. But, as we’ve learned this year, quite a bit can change in the span of a month and a half, and we want you to be prepared. There are more details here.
- Also, I have learned that the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is offering parking options for students who need to leave their cars a longer time over break.
- If you have any questions about the remainder of this semester or plans for the spring, please reach out to questions@roanoke.edu.
I look forward to seeing even more of you back on campus next semester.
There are so many people who went to immeasurable lengths to get us to this point and to say I am grateful doesn’t come close to the extreme gratitude I feel. Thank you.
Happy Thanksgiving Maroons!
President Mike Maxey
