Roanoke Model UN delegation heads to Germany

A two-student delegation of the Roanoke College Model United Nations League will attend a one-week conference in Erfurt, Germany this month, marking the first time in the College’s history that Roanoke will participate in an international Model UN conference.
Emily Cranford ’22 and Ryan Denholm ’21, with Dr. Joshua Rubongoya, professor of political science, will leave on Nov. 23 for the conference at the University of Erfurt. They will represent the United Arab Emirates.

Denholm, a member of the Roanoke College Model UN for the past two years, says he is thrilled to represent Roanoke College internationally. While in Germany, “I am looking forward to having the opportunity to meet student leaders from all over the world and work toward consensus on issues of global importance,” he says.
Cranford, having joined the Roanoke College Model UN in the fall semester of 2018, says she is excited about traveling to Germany. She is most looking forward to visiting United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) sites as well as hearing the president of Germany speak.
“I am most excited to debate with my fellow delegates and to learn as much German culture as I can while we are there,” she says.
Says Rubongoya, “This is a great and record-setting opportunity for the Roanoke College Model UN.”
