David Mowen named Vice President of Business Affairs and Treasurer

David B. Mowen will join Roanoke College in mid-August as the new vice president of business affairs and treasurer. Mowen is currently the executive vice president of finance and administration at Mary Baldwin University. He has served Mary Baldwin since 2001 in several different positions within their office of finance and administration.
Mowen has extensive experience in both higher education and the corporate environment. At Mary Baldwin, he leads the team of more than 100 employees. He designed the business plan and helped launch the university's Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences. Mowen has successfully led two SACS reaffirmation cycles for the business and finance division. His corporate background includes experience as director of treasury services for Rocco Enterprises, associate treasurer and chief contract negotiator for GENICOM Corporation, accounting manager for Wheat First Securities and assistant controller for Media General, Inc.
Mowen is chair and a member of the board of directors for Virginia Private Colleges Health Care Consortium and was a member of the founding executive committee of the Virginia Private College Multi Employer Retirement Plan. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce, a former trustee for the American Shakespeare Center, and a past president of the Central Shenandoah Valley Health Care Coalition.
Mowen holds a bachelor of science in accounting from Virginia Tech and an MBA from James Madison University. He is a CPA and a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society. He is a member of the National Association for College and University Business Officers, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. He also has experience as a business instructor at Mary Baldwin and as an adjunct accounting instructor at James Madison.
Mowen will succeed Mark Noftsinger, who has served the College well for over a decade and will be retiring in October. Mowen and Noftsinger will have a period of overlap in their work to ensure a smooth transition for the College.
