Go International at President's Ball
November 10, 2015
International flair is the main attraction at this year's Roanoke College President's Ball.
"Around the World" is the theme of the ninth annual President's Ball, planned for Saturday, Nov. 14. All of the rooms in the Colket Center will reflect different countries, with international food, decor and activities in each space.
The Colket main floor will feature France with a variety of French desserts, while the Commons will represent more than 20 Caribbean countries. Dueling Pianos in the Commons will entertain guests with cover songs. There also will be an Irish pub area on the main floor.
On the upper level of Colket, guests will find a selection of heavy hors d'oeuvres and a ballroom for dancing. The Wortmann Ballroom will represent China and host the Domino's band. If you are looking for a place to have a nice slow dance, the ballroom is your best option. Egypt and Italy also will be represented on the upper level, and food from China and Italy will be served in the atrium.
The Cavern, located on the bottom level of Colket, will be decorated with Indian flair. Roanoke senior Amber Isham will be the DJ in this area, which will have a Bollywood-theme. The Cavern typically features club style dancing and a party atmosphere. In the atrium area, the Roanoke Times Paparazzi will set up a backdrop for people to have their pictures taken. Attendees also can model Indian sarees, scarves, bindis and temporary tattoos in an area called Salon India.
Throughout the evening, guests may spot a candid photographer and catch a short video featuring Roanoke College students, including those who are international and studying abroad.
Semi-formal wear is suggested, though attendees are welcome to dress in traditional international attire.
The doors open at 8 p.m., and festivities end at midnight.
