COVID-19 transmissions at high level

Dear Maroon community,

As you are likely aware, the latest variant of COVID is making its rounds and is prevalent in the Roanoke Valley. Roanoke City and Roanoke County have been designated as having a HIGH COVID-19 transmission level and now Salem is also back into the HIGH infection level as well. This information is provided by the Virginia Department of Health. Since much of the testing is now done as home tests, cases are certainly higher than what is being reported to VDH. So we know it’s definitely at a high level in our local region.

When the COVID-19 transmission level is designated as HIGH for an area, masks are recommended for indoor public spaces, on public transportation and in areas where social distancing is not possible. Masks are recommended but not required.
