Roanoke student brings fossil fuel divestment initiative to campus

In September, Glenn Rhodes '15 joined hundreds of thousands of people on the streets of New York City to demand action by world leaders for climate change.
Rhodes of Richmond, Va., was so inspired by the People's Climate March that he returned to Roanoke College with an idea that is beginning to take shape on campus.
He created RC Divest, an organization that encourages the College to divest its endowments from companies that exploit fossil fuels. The goal is for Roanoke to reinvest its resources in companies that are sustainable.
RC Divest now is an official college organization.
MyActions, a company that promotes sustainability across campuses nationwide, recently gave Roanoke College a Silver Level Student Action Award for student leadership, activism and initiatives. Rhodes, an intern with myActions, is one of Roanoke's leaders in this movement.
Rhodes, who is majoring in criminal justice, is active in other Roanoke student groups that promote environmental sustainability, including RC Sustain, RC Electric and Earthbound.
