Roanoke College to commemorate Sept. 11 anniversary

Roanoke College will commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a remembrance event Monday at the Sigma Chi house on Elizabeth campus.

- Members of the Sigma Chi fraternity and others will gather at the fraternity's house on Roanoke's Elizabeth Campus at 8:30 a.m. to remember victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, including alumnus Stephen LaMantia '85. LaMantia worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm with an office on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. He was president of Sigma Chi his senior year at Roanoke. The gathering will be held at the memorial for LaMantia, which stands in front of the Sigma Chi fraternity house. Weather permitting, the U.S. flag will be raised to half-staff at 8:46 a.m., marking the time the attacks began on Sept. 11, 2001.
