Maroons receive Human Resource scholarship

Two Roanoke College students have been awarded scholarships from The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Kelsey McCluskey ’21 and Maggie Riggan ’21 were selected as recipients of the 2020 Student Scholarship, created to assist aspiring Human Resource professionals. Each student will receive a $1,500 stipend.
To qualify for the award, the students were required to submit an essay, two letters of recommendation and transcripts from an accredited Roanoke Valley-based college or university.
McCluskey is a business administration major with a Human Resource concentration. She served as vice president of the Roanoke College SHRM Chapter during the 2019-2020 academic year and will serve as president in the 2020-2021 year. This summer, she is interning with Delta Dental of New Jersey.
Riggan is an active member of the College’s SHRM chapter and a member of the women’s swim team. Dr. Johanna Sweet, assistant professor of business administration and economics, introduced Riggan to her eventual college major through an internship in Human Resources at Carilion Clinic. Riggan is studying Public Health, as well as Healthcare Administration and HR Management.
The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management is a professional organization of more than 150 men and women. Members include business leaders such as Human Resource professionals, service providers, non-profit administrators, entrepreneurs and government officials who share a dedication to ideals of effective Human Resource Management.
