Four staff members receive Roanoke College STAR Awards
December 22, 2015
Four staff members who represent many facets of Roanoke College life — information technology, Olin Hall, Fintel Library and campus dining — received high honors at the College last Saturday.
Terri Austin, director of IT client services, Talia Logan, director of Olin Gallery, Dianne Lucado, senior associate for purchasing and budgets at Fintel Library, and Terri Saunders, manager of the Roanoke College Cavern, received the annual Service to All Roanoke Awards during a holiday banquet for faculty and staff on Dec. 19. The award, known as the STAR Award, recognizes noteworthy accomplishments and service at the College across several employment categories.
Austin has worked at Roanoke for more than 30 years, taking on several roles to help the College's Information Technology department grow and excel. She received her bachelor's degree from the College while working full time, and her colleagues call her a "machine" because of all that she is able to accomplish with limited resources.
Logan is the face of Olin Gallery, the College's art exhibition space. Since 2006, Logan has brought her creativity and extensive know-how to Roanoke's art displays, including organizing several successful collaborations with the community to showcase work at the gallery.
Lucado is known for her detail-oriented approach to keeping up with finances and accounts at Fintel Library. She was lauded for stepping in after the untimely death of the library's director, Stan Umberger, last year to help communicate with contractors and others to ensure that the renovation of the library was completed.
Saunders was recognized for her energy and enthusiasm in managing and directing the College's Cavern, even when she works 14-hour days. The Cavern, located on the bottom level of the Colket Center, serves the entire campus community.
The STAR Award is given to nominated Roanoke employees in exempt, nonexempt and hourly categories.
