“Triumph of Hope,” a documentary about three Roanoke Valley residents who were hidden children of the Holocaust, will be screened at The Grandin Theatre in Roanoke on April 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater website, grandintheatre.com.
“Triumph of Hope” was directed and produced by Roanoke College alumnus Steve Mason ’91, owner of Red Velocity Inc., and sponsored in part by Trustee Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo ’78 and her foundation, the Dorothea L. Leonhardt Foundation. It tells the powerful true story of Helga Morrow, Regine Archer and the late Arye Ephrath, three Roanoke residents who settled in the Roanoke area after surviving the Holocaust as hidden children. It also features highlights from a question-and-answer session with the film subjects and Roanoke College students.
“Triump of Hope” was executive produced by Lori Strauss, event coordinator with the Roanoke Jewish Foundation, and additional funding was provided by the Sam and Marion Golden Helping Hand Foundation.
The film was first screened at Roanoke College in September 2024, with a screening at The Grandin Theatre in November 2024. Now, the story of this remarkable journey returns to the big screen, offering a chance for those who have not seen it to experience the enduring strength of the human spirit.
