WRKE hosting Election Night coverage as results stream in
November 03, 2020
As people in the Roanoke College community and beyond turn their eyes to major news networks for election results, they can also tune in to WRKE for added analysis.
WRKE, the student-run radio station at Roanoke College, is hosting an Election Night show from 8 p.m. to midnight. Mary Rose Stark ‘21 is hosting the show and said the broadcast will be informational as opposed to opinionated.
“With the media overly saturated with political commentary from analysts and pundits across the political spectrum it can be overwhelming for many people, especially students, to stay informed without being bogged down,” Stark said. “I wanted to provide coverage of this election to give students (and everyone else who listens) not only the numerical results, but an understanding of what the numbers mean. WRKE is entirely student-run and our election coverage is no different.”
Listeners can tune in to WRKE at 100.3 LP FM Salem if you are on campus or in the surrounding area, listen to the livestream online at WRKE.org or listen on the Tune-In app (just search WRKE). Listeners can follow WRKE on Instagram (@wrkeradio) to submit questions they’d like to hear answered on-air and to stay updated on the happenings of the station.
In addition to covering exit polls and preliminary results for both the presidential and congressional elections as they come in, WRKE’s Election Night show will delve into how American elections work, including an explanation of the Electoral College. The show will feature a number of student guests from across the country to talk about expectations and outcomes from different swing states.
“WRKE’s election coverage is going to provide listeners with need-to-know information to understand what the results are and what that means for the future,” Stark said.
