Dr. David Gring and his wife, Susan, and Dr. Norman Fintel and his wife, Jo, received Roanoke College medals during an awards luncheon in the College's Cregger Center on April 7. Norm Fintel, who had been battling cancer, passed away on April 7.

Norm Fintel, Roanoke's eighth president, spearheaded significant growth at Roanoke from 1975 to 1989. The campus grew with the additions of the Bast Center, Olin Hall, the former Roanoke County Courthouse and the purchase of the Elizabeth campus. Enrollment and endowment grew as well.

During the week of April 3 - 6, two award-winning Native American authors will visit Roanoke to discuss and read from their work. Other events will include a poetry recital, a theatrical performance, panel discussions and lectures.  

Pam Pierce '72 founded Silver Bullet Productions, a nonprofit educational film company in New Mexico. She will speak and show one of her award-winning documentary films on March 15 at Roanoke College as part of Women's Forum.

"Daylily Day," written by Steph Spector '16, has appeared at film festivals in New York and Virginia this past year.

Roanoke kicks off the celebration of the College's 175th anniversary in January. With Maroon Spotlight, Roanoke College will recognize those who have made a significant impact in areas such as the sciences, military, education, religion, government service, innovations, and more. Adventurer Sean Burch '92 has achieved his eighth world record by completing 31 first ascents of previously unclimbed Himalayan mountains in the Humla District in western Nepal.

"There were hundreds and hundreds of people who came together to make this dream happen," said Morris Cregger '64, about the new Morris M. Cregger Center.
