Economics Professor Edward Nik-Khah delivered a keynote address at an international workshop organized by the oldest and most prestigious university in Poland.
The Sept. 11 event was hosted by Jagiellonian University, a public research institution and one of the top-tier universities in Europe. It was co-sponsored by the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking, Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics at Jagiellonian University and East European Network for Philosophy of Science.
Nik-Khah's address focused on the rising influence of big data, AI, commercial platforms and pro-market think tanks in precision medicine. Sometimes referred to as personalized medicine or genomic medicine, precision medicine is a model that uses a patient’s genetic analysis to shape their clinical care.
Nik-Khah is an expert in the history of information and market design. His current research explores the development of platform-oriented “tech economics” and the role of Big Tech in health care.
Jagiellonian University’s workshop was organized to examine the tensions and dilemmas raised when science collides with economic and political interests. Nik-Khah spoke at the event along with other global experts from Poland, Spain and Denmark.
