Maroon Village
Sustainable and innovative, Roanoke College's newest housing option offers students a modern living environment.

Welcome To Maroon Village
This forward-thinking housing community puts Roanoke College smack dab in the middle of a growing trend of eco-friendly development that has been embraced in upscale metropolitan lofts, tiny homes, hotels, restaurants, art galleries, and more.
Constructed from repurposed shipping containers, Maroon Village is an innovative example of how to live greener without forgoing daily comforts. On the outside, clean and minimalist architecture paired with an open courtyard will create a unique sense of place.
On the inside, bright and welcoming interiors in coveted suite-style rooms will welcome students home. The units were designed with sustainability in mind and include the use of solar panels — Roanoke College’s first residence hall to feature renewable energy!
Each unit will be renovated and modern with an energy-efficient design that meets the highest Energy Star standards. The result is a comfortable, conscientious approach to campus living.

The Benefits
Maroon Village is a smart, eco-friendly approach to housing created with our planet in mind. By repurposing good, durable materials, introducing solar power and embracing energy-efficient design, we reduce our consumption of precious natural resources.
This is an opportunity for students to engage in sustainable living in a way never before offered on campus. It’s also a chance to experience a modern, creative style of housing that is gaining popularity around the country. Repurposed shipping containers are popping up in art galleries, hotels, tiny homes, cafés — and soon at Roanoke College!

The Community Pledge
Roanoke College is moving forward with the commitment made in its new strategic plan: To develop an on-campus residential experience that is an exemplar of a 21st century learning laboratory—beautiful, integrated, practical, and inspiring.
This project will honor that promise, both by allowing us to renovate other, aging residence halls and by being a beautiful and inspiring place in itself. We are dedicated to ensuring it's thoughtfully designed to serve students well, minimize impact on the surrounding community, and contribute to the vibrant sense of place that defines Roanoke.
