Executive Functioning Meeting Format

Executive Functioning Weekly Meeting Format:
The timing of your meeting is essential to helping your student develop executive functioning and create a weekly habit. Your meeting should be a few days before the week starts, so Friday, Saturday, or Sunday would be ideal. If those days don't work, you could do a Monday morning meeting.

Executive Functioning Cycle: First Meeting

  1. Create weekly goals:
    • What do you want to accomplish this week?
    • What assignments do you have due? Check Inquire
  2. Make a To-Do List for the week
    • Help your student prioritize the items on the list by importance.
    • Do they need help breaking down bigger assignments into smaller tasks?
    • Add items to planner or calendar
  3. Do you have or need to make any appointments this week? 
    • Subject Tutoring, Writing Center
    • Professor, Advisor
  4. What reminders do we need to set?
    • Phone reminders
    • Outlook
    • Personal reminders
       

Executive Functioning Cycle: Follow-up Meetings

  1. What worked last week? What do we still need to improve?
    • Encourage transparency
    • Help the student brainstorm solutions
  2. Repeat the other steps

 You should write down your student's plans each week and send them a follow-up email listing their goals and priorities for the week.  If you find your student is making plans but forgetting to follow up, you can discuss sending reminders throughout the week.
