CAEP Annual Reporting Measures
2020-21
Measure 1: Completer effectiveness. (R4.1)
(a) completer impact in contributing to P-12 student-learning growth
The Employer Survey VEAC Report 2020-2021 had a 38% response rate (n=8) and assesses both the InTASC Standards and the Virginia Uniform Performance Standards in regard to completer effectiveness with students in the classroom.
The EPP had the following scores related to their effectiveness in the classroom:
(C) Effectively engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies in order to need individual learning needs: Mean score = 3.25 (VEAC overall mean score = 3.36
(G) Work results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress: Mean score = 3.38 (VEAC overall mean = 3.32)
(M) Uses assessment results to inform and adjust practice: Mean score = 3.14 (VEAC overall mean = 3.29)
(b) completer effectiveness in applying professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
The Employer Survey VEAC Report 2020-2021 had a 38% response rate (n=8) and assesses both the InTASC Standards and the Virginia Uniform Performance Standards in regard to completer application of knowledge, skills and dispositions.
The EPP had the following scores related to application of professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions:
(A) Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences: Mean score = 3.25 (VEAC overall mean = 3.37)
(F) Maintains a commitment to professional ethics, communicates effectively, and takes responsibility for and participates in professional growth that results in enhanced student learning: Mean score = 3.63 (VEAC overall mean = 3.48)
(I) Integrates technology into instructional materials: Mean score = 3.71 (VEAC overall mean = 3.44)
(K) Integrates diverse language and cultures into instruction to promote the value of multilingual/multicultural perspectives: Mean score; 3.29 (VEAC overall mean = 3.25)
Measure 2: Satisfaction of employers and stakeholder involvement. (R4.2|R5.3| RA4.1)
As noted in previous Annual Reports, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is no clear mechanism for collecting and sharing data across the state education agency, EPPs, and P-12 school divisions. To help mitigate this challenge, we became a member of the Virginia Education Assessment Collaborative (VEAC) in order to gather more reliable information on the success of our completers in the field. Several members of the 36 Virginia EPPs formed the VEAC to create a state-wide system for data collection, in particular, to build a common set of assessment measures, tools, and activities that all Virginia EPPs may use in response to CAEP requirements. Roanoke College joined this pilot group at the end of the 2020 Academic Year. One of the first developments of VEAC was the creation and implementation of completer and employer surveys in response to CAEP Standard 4.3 and 4.4, and the VEAC Instruction Guide which outlined how these surveys met sufficiency within the CAEP Evaluation Framework for EPP-Created Assessments, and how these surveys assessed both the InTASC Standards and the Virginia Uniform Performance Standards.
Employer Satisfaction Data
The Employer Survey VEAC Report 2020-2021 had a 38% response rate (n=8).
This survey measured overall readiness of completers and whether they were "ready to meet the needs of students in your schools."
Responses were on a 5-point scale: Fully ready, Mostly ready, Moderately ready, Minimally ready, or Not ready.
Overall Satisfaction Scaled Descriptive
EPP Mean Score = 4.38
VEAC Overall Mean Score = 4.52
Measure 3: Candidate competency at completion. (R3.3)
Data provided should relate to measures the EPP is using to determine if candidates are meeting program expectations and ready to be recommended for licensure. (E.g.: EPP's Title II report, data that reflect the ability of EPP candidates to meet licensing and state requirements or other measures the EPP uses to determine candidate competency at completion.)
The EPP completers' pass rates on VLCA (state-mandated assessment) and the Praxis II (content-specific test) were 100%.
Also, 95% of completers received a rubric score of 3 or above (4-point Likert scale) on the final Student Teaching evaluations from the clinical and college supervisors.
Measure 4: Ability of completers to be hired (in positions for which they have prepared.)
The EPP surveys all completers at program exit and retains email contact to gather employment information. Of 19 completers, 14 are employed as classroom teachers, one is enrolled in graduate school, and four did not report their employment status.
2021-22
The Employer Survey VEAC Report for 2021-22, from which we derive data for measures 1 and 2, will not be available to us until June, 2023. We will fill in these data at that time.
