Resources for Faculty & Staff
No one on campus has more influence on students' learning and development than the faculty and staff of Roanoke College. Not only does Global Engagement encourage students to consider study away through events and advising meetings, we also provide resources for faculty to help them promote study abroad in their classrooms.
Encourage First-Year Students to start planning
By encouraging students early in their academic careers, they can start to plan and are more likely to have a more meaningful off-campus experience that relates to their major and does not delay graduation. Students respect you, and need role models to understand that a study away program can work for them. You can mention study away in your classes, during individual meetings with students, and at extracurricular activities in which you’re involved. If you’ve had a personal experience of studying, researching or teaching abroad, relate the benefits to your audience. Furthermore, we encourage you to consider serving as a resource for pre-departure study away participants. If you possess expertise in a specific area, such as a particular region, language, or topic, we suggest reaching out to Global Engagement on how best to offer your guidance and support. This proactive approach can significantly alleviate student concerns and uncertainties related to their upcoming experience. By sharing your knowledge and insights, you can help empower them with valuable information and confidence as they prepare for their off-campus adventure
Don't Cancel That Class!
Request a classroom visit from Global Engagement
We welcome the opportunity to visit classrooms and offer study abroad presentations to your students. To book a session, there are two options: if this is planning more than two months in advance, please email your dates, class start times, and class locations to globalengagement@roanoke.edu and feel free to include any additional information (expected mixture of class ranks, majors, etc.). To book a session on more short notice, please follow this link to the Global Engagement booking page and select "Study Abroad Presentation." Our calendar fills up, so plan as far in advance as you can... but if you feel a flu coming on, it's not a bad idea to take the sick day and let us educate your students about a wonderful opportunity at Roanoke College.
