Summer Intern Housing
Intern housing is available at Roanoke College for Summer 2024 beginning May 12th through August 3rd.
Block 1: May 12 – June 9th
Block 2: June 10th – July 7th
Block 3: July 8th – August 3rd
Summer Intern Housing is available in 4-week blocks charged at $975/block. Payment for the first block reservation is due upon completion of the registration for interns registering themselves. For students, subsequent blocks will be charged 1 week prior to the block start. Employers registering interns will pay for full housing cost at registration. Final billing for incidentals will be billed 14 business days following the scheduled check-out. Check-in is typically 10 AM - 2 PM and check-out by 10 AM. Alternative times are available on a case-by-case basis. Keys can be picked up at Campus Safety and returned to the drop-box outside of Residence Life and Housing.
Cost includes accommodation, a technology fee, unlimited access to Cregger gym and workout facilities, and free laundry services. Air-conditioned, furnished apartment style-living with single occupancy bedrooms available. Up to 5 interns per apartment (dependent upon apartment, ie. 5-bedroom apartment), shared kitchen, living and bathroom space. Optional campus dining is available at an additional cost by individual meal.
CONTRACT OPTIONS
Individual Summer Housing Season runs from May 12—Aug. 3, 2024. Individuals may stay four weeks or up to 12 weeks (4 week minimum). All housing fees are non-refundable. Special circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
AGE REQUIREMENT
Summer Interns must be 18 years of age or older by date of arrival. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Where is Roanoke College? Where is Elizabeth Hall?
Roanoke College is located in Salem, Virginia. Elizabeth Hall is a residence hall owned by Roanoke College, approximately 1 mile from main campus. The physical address is 960 Kime Lane, Salem, VA 24153.
How do I know if I am eligible for intern housing?
Summer intern housing is available for those who will be interning around the Roanoke College Campus and the Roanoke Valley. All summer interns must be a student at some university (have a school email address) and proof of internship is required when applying for summer intern housing. We do require a minimum stay of 4 weeks and maximum of 12 weeks for summer intern housing.
What are the apartment sizes?
Each apartment varies in terms of size. We offer two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom apartments. Each apartment has at least one bathroom.
What is included in each apartment?
Each apartment contains a kitchen with full size refrigerator, stove, oven, and kitchen table and chairs. Each bedroom contains a twin XL bed and mattress, desk and desk chair, dresser, and closet or wardrobe. All utilities are included – water, electric, and Wifi.
Where can I do laundry?
There is a laundry room located on the ground floor of Elizabeth Hall. Washers and dryers are free to use.
How do I access the Wifi?
To use guest Wifi on campus, use your device's standard procedure to connect to the "MaroonGuest" network. You will then be prompted to create an account to sign into the network. Please note that you will be required to sign into the MaroonGuest network each day using the same email address and password that you created. For more information, visit this IT helpdesk article.
To access the MaroonTVGaming network, contact the college IT Helpdesk at (540) 375-2225 or helpdesk@roanoke.edu. You will need to provide the wireless MAC address of your device.
Can I bring a vehicle? Where do I park?
Interns must obtain a parking permit from Campus Safety. There are plenty of parking spots in a lot adjacent to Elizabeth Hall. Interns can go to the Campus Safety Office, located at 9 North College Avenue (next to Freshens) to obtain a hang tag for their vehicle. Hang tags must be displayed on the rear view mirror whenever the vehicle is parked on College property. Interns will be responsible for adhering to the College Motor Vehicle Policy (a copy will be provided upon tag pickup, or it’s available online).
What is the payment/collection policy for the intern stay?
Payment for the first block is due upon registration. Additional blocks may be paid at time of registration or will be charged to the individual or organization 1 week prior to subsequent block start dates. Lack of payment will result in reservation cancellation. The Intern or sponsoring organization shall pay all amounts due hereunder within thirty days after the receipt of the applicable invoice.
Interns who do not pay all fees and charges owed are responsible, in the event of their default or the return of a check, for payment of the returned check charge, to pay a penalty/late payment fees, and for all reasonable administrative costs, collections costs, and attorney's fees incurred in the collection of funds due to the College. Returned check fees and penalty/late payment fees are assessed according to the current rate posted by the Roanoke College Business Office.
When is the last day I can apply for intern housing?
Our deadline is July 1st at 12 noon EST (or when at full capacity, whichever comes first).

What are the building and staff hours?
Our Housing and Residence Life will have phone and office coverage throughout your stay. Summer staff members will assist you with check-in, check-outs, and any issues that may arise during your stay. Professional staff members will supervise the student staff. Your main point of contact while staying on campus will be the student staff members. They will be able to assist with any maintenance or facility requests that need to be reported, assist with guest issues such as lockouts, and any College protocols and procedures. Please report any facilities or maintenance issues to the student staff within 24 hours.
Who do I contact in the event of an emergency?
For medical emergencies, dial 911.
For maintenance, housekeeping, or other emergencies, dial Campus Safety at 540-375-2310. They are available 24/7.
Can I receive packages during my summer stay?
Interns are encouraged to utilize a P.O. Box with the Post Office to receive mail. There are also Amazon Lockers located at Ace Hardware on W. Main Street in Salem, approximately a 10 minute drive from campus.
What are some local restaurants and things to do in the area?
Mac and Bob's, Macado's, El Jefe’s, Awful Arthur’s Seafood Company, West Salem Diner, and Gina’s Food with Flavor are some local restaurant favorites. Chain restaurants nearby include Applebee’s, Chipotle, Moe’s, Domino’s, and Chick-Fil-A. Local attractions include Explore Park for hiking, ziplining, and camping; Roanoke Pinball Museum; Carvin’s Cove for kayaking, fishing, and more; Virginia Museum of Transportation; Taubman Museum of Art; and plenty of local breweries.
