What are Roanoke College's recruitment policies for employers?

My company meets the recruitment standards but doesn't have a Handshake profile. How do we get started?

To create a free company profile, you will first need to create a new user account, then register your company in Handshake. Instructions for both processes are available in our Employer Guide linked above.  

My company is in Handshake but I don't have an account. How do I set one up?

To create a new user account, sign up through the Handshake website. You will then need to verify your account and connect with your company to start recruiting. More detailed instructions are available in our Employer Guide linked below. 

How can I share my available jobs or internships with Roanoke College students?

To post a job at Roanoke College, follow the instructions above to register with Handshake and start posting opportunities to our student network. We encourage you to first review our recruitment policies to ensure that the job meets all requirements. Please reach out to place@roanoke.edu with any questions or to connect with us.  

How can my organization register for in-person recruiting on campus?

Registration for semesterly career fairs is available in Handshake beginning several months before the event date. To inquire about hosting a table on campus, presenting to a class, or receiving communication about future career fairs, email place@roanoke.edu.  

What recommendations does PLACE have for employers recruiting on campus?

  • Send the right people to campus events. Dynamic, engaging, and approachable staff are ideal for students.  
  • Leverage alumni on your staff.  
  • Want to host on-campus interviews? Contact PLACE at to reserve an interview space.  
  • Take advantage of PLACE partnership opportunities.  
  • Invite students to visit you at a career fair, information session, etc. Use Handshake, networking opportunities, classroom presentations, etc. to identify those students.  
  • Create an ambassador program using current interns to tell your organization’s story when they’re on campus.  
  • Schedule an information or skill-based session while on campus.  
  • Utilize Handshake:  
    • Post job opportunities for full-time, internship, co-op, and part-time employment.  
    • Use student search feature to review profiles.  
    • Register for the job and internship fair held each semester on campus.
