Colleges and universities across the country are entering a new era that will be characterized by unprecedented societal and industry challenges. Roanoke College President Frank Shushok Jr. says only two kinds of higher education institutions will be protected from these challenges: Those that have massive endowments and those that have the courage to adapt.
Roanoke College leaders are working hard to stand out in the latter category, launching initiatives designed to strengthen its curriculum and community partnerships, increase student opportunities and well-being, improve branding and infrastructure, and boost enrollment.
In this issue of Roanoke College Magazine, we take a deep dive into some of those initiatives and explain how they can help position Roanoke for success in the evolving landscape of higher education.
We also fill you in on the 10th anniversary of the Center for Civic Engagement, faculty and staff retirements, new academic programs, the future of football at Roanoke College and much more. All of this is wrapped in the beautiful package of a custom illustration by France-based artist Gwen Keraval. Can you spot the Maroon-tailed hawk hiding on the cover?
